A Bequest in a Will or Trust — Sample Bequest Language

Please provide the following sample language to your client's estate planning attorney to include a bequest to Gaylord Hospital:

  1. Unrestricted bequest (For our unrestricted use)

Your client may designate her bequest be applied to our unrestricted purposes (an "unrestricted bequest"). The funds will give Gaylord Hospital flexibility to meet its greatest needs at the time your client's bequest is realized.

"I give to Gaylord Hospital, with Tax Identification Number 06-0646649, a charitable organization located in Wallingford, CT, the sum of $____________ [or property described herein] [or ____ percent (____%) of the rest of my estate] to be held and applied for the use of Gaylord Hospital for its general purposes."
  2. Restricted bequest (For a purpose your client designates)

Your client may instead prefer to designate her bequest for a specific purpose (a "restricted bequest") at Gaylord Hospital.

"I give to Gaylord Hospital, with Tax Identification Number 06-0646649, a charitable organization located in Wallingford, CT, the sum of $____________ [or property described herein] [or ____ percent (____%) of the rest of my estate] to be applied for the following purpose: _________________."

If your client wants to restrict her bequest to a particular program or area at Gaylord Hospital or to establish a scholarship or other endowed fund, we recommend that she consult with us so that we can review her intended purpose and confirm that we are able to carry out her wishes.
